However, the bond can be a little too strong, leading to some jealousy issues. This charming parrot, scientifically known as the Amazona auropalliata, is a tropical species broadly found in Costa Rica, El Salvator, and Guatemala. Yellow-naped Amazons are quite popular among bird lovers, mainly for their incredible speaking skills. They are quite extroverted and enjoy being the center of attention. If you ignore them, they’ll make a fuss about it.

Housing these birds involves providing them with a stainless-steel cage, measuring around 36X24X40 inches. These birds require ample space for climbing and flapping their wings; the higher the cage, the better. Avoid placing the cage in drafty areas and ensure that it is well-lit with natural light. You can add a wired grated bottom to the cage since these birds tend to scatter their foods. Also, hanging perches or playpens are much appreciated.

Yellow naped Amazon are playful and enjoy spending time with their human companions. They are intelligent and can learn new words and tricks quite fast. These birds have a beautiful singing voice, and they may serenade you with opera at times. Additionally, they are not shy about meeting new people and entertaining them with their tricks. However, they may become nippy and throw tantrums, especially when agitated, and this is where your training comes in. Males may become quite hostile during mating season, while females tend to be timid. They love spending time with their toys and require roughly 11-12 hours of sleep for juveniles and subadults and a few hours less for adults.

Feeding these birds isn’t complicated since pelleted or seed-based diets, accompanied by chicken, vegetables, and fruits, work fine. If your pet has adapted to your household rules, you may have it on your table to have meals together.

Bathing your yellow naped Amazon can be fun as they love water spraying or bathing inside the kitchen sink or a bowl. They are happy to cooperate with you during grooming, and cleaning their cage, tray, food, and water bowls should be part of your daily duties. With proper care, they can live for up to 50 years.
