The African Grey Parrot, scientifically known as Psittacus erithacus, is a moderate-sized bird found in Africa’s equatorial regions. It is considered one of the most intelligent birds and makes an excellent human companion. Adopting and raising an African grey requires a significant investment of time and energy, but the rewards of living with one are incredibly enriching.
Housing is essential for proper African grey parrot care. The bird should be kept in a cage that is at least 2ftX2ftX3ft in size and should include a minimum of three perches and toys to provide mental stimulation. It is best to hang or place the cage in a corner of the room, away from doorways, windows, or air vents and in a draft-free area to ensure the bird’s peace of mind.

Experts recommend occasional treats such as bread, salads, hemp, and sprouts while avoiding caffeine and alcohol products, salted foods, uncooked beans, onions, asparagus, chocolate, and avocado.
Grooming is an essential aspect of African grey care. They require daily swims, which can be provided using a shallow tray or a mist spray. Professional grooming is required for feather clipping and nail trimming.
