Rose Breasted Cockatoo

Rose breasted cockatoo are adorable and charming pets. Known as “Galas” in their native land of Australia, these birds feature a lovely pink and grey body that becomes more dazzling when they get excited. They are an ideal size, being larger than Cockatiels and slightly smaller than African Greys.

Rose breasted cockatoo make great companions thanks to their lively, fun, and loving personalities. However, they require ample time, attention, and training, just like any other Cockatoo. You must give them lots of toys to play with to avoid boredom. This breed is incredibly intelligent and will need plenty of mental stimulation.

One vital fact about Rose breasted cockatoo is that they tend to become close to a particular person. If you want them to be social, you should expose them to people of various ages and personalities from an early age. Without sufficient interaction, they may become unpleasant and even aggressive.

Hand-reared galahs can sometimes identify more with humans than other birds. When startled or upset, they erect their crest, which could be a concern. However, keeping them engaged with various toys will make them less susceptible to such behavior. These birds are a pleasure to train and make excellent talkers, with males being particularly adept.

Rose breasted cockatoo need a well-balanced diet. Feed them with specialized pellets that meet their nutritional requirements, but make sure at least 50% of their diet consists of vegetables and fruits. Great options include leafy greens, root vegetables, berries, and sprouts. While fresh water should always be available, limit nuts such as walnuts and almonds.

These parrots require considerable attention and care to thrive and function as pets, and there are some important housing considerations to keep in mind. They need plenty of space, with their cages at least being 5 feet square. Preferably, grab an aviary that is spacious enough for them to fly. You should also provide perches, toys, and mineral blocks for enrichment. Ensure the bird is kept comfortably at night in a dark environment.

Rose-breasted cockatoos benefit from regular bathing, as they have more dandruff than other Cockatoo species. They can trim their nails, beak, and claws on their own if you give them good perches. If you do not have enough time to interact with your bird regularly, you can always consider getting another Galah.
